Taylor County is grateful to have a CIS Site Coordinator at all five schools supporting students and families in their most vulnerable moments. The Site Coordinators work tirelessly to fill in the gaps and ensure that all students have access to the supports and items they need.
One highlight of their work is their annual Back-to-School Bash started in 2022. This event, hosted at Grafton High School, invites families to an evening of fun and connection. Community partners are stationed at tables to inform families of available resources, and free tables are available to provide all needed school supplies as well as hygiene kits. All children in the community can get ready for a new year with a free haircut, and the Health Department offers a vaccination station. This event continues to be a hit amongst the community.
This school year, the Site Coordinators decided to create a County CIS Newsletter to communicate throughout the school year with families, staff, and the community about CIS, resources available to those in need, and who to contact when needing help. This newsletter will allow them to be more transparent with their goals while improving visibility of the program and supports available to families.
The CIS Site Coordinators stay busy all year engaging the community and meeting families where they are. No request is too big to make sure the students and families in Taylor County have what they need to succeed.
