March Spotlight: Pleasants County

Pleasants County Schools is more than just a place where students come to learn each day, it is a place where they are welcomed, valued, and truly supported. A large part of that supportive environment is made possible through the work of the Communities In Schools site coordinators who serve there. Their dedication ensures that students can come to school feeling cared for and ready to focus on learning.
These coordinators understand that sometimes the barriers students face have nothing to do with the classroom. Whether it’s providing school supplies, helping a student find clothes that fit comfortably, offering a stick of deodorant, or sending home snack bags so a child doesn’t go hungry over the weekend, they quietly step in to meet those needs with compassion and dignity. Their goal is simple but powerful: to make sure every student has what they need to feel confident, supported, and able to succeed.
Every Wednesday, these dedicated individuals spend their time packing more than 150 bags filled with food for students who may need extra support outside of school. They also share their lunch periods with small groups of students who benefit from extra time, encouragement, and connection. Just as importantly, they listen. Spending countless hours hearing the thoughts, worries, and hopes of the young people they serve.
The coordinators here work hard to connect households with community resources, and build partnerships with local organizations that can help meet the needs they see. Through this work, they create meaningful and lasting relationships that reach not only the students in their care but also their families and the broader community.
Because of the commitment, compassion, and heart of the Communities In Schools Coordinators, Pleasants County Schools continues to be a place where students know they belong and where they are supported every step of the way.
