Communities In Schools is proudly serving students at Nutter Fort Primary School, Nutter Fort Intermediate School, and Liberty Middle School.  Communities In Schools has been present within Harrison County since 2022. The site coordinators named their CIS offices as the “Helping Hub,” creating a consistent, welcoming space where students know exactly where to find support as they transition from primary to intermediate to middle school.

The Harrison County CIS team meets students' needs head-on. Whether addressing attendance challenges, academic barriers, social-emotional growth, or basic needs, they provide individualized and unique support tailored to each student. Their proactive approach ensures that challenges are not only addressed—but addressed thoughtfully and effectively.

Each morning, at Nutter Fort Primary, students are greeted by Eli, their furry therapy (FWP) dog, who helps boost attendance and welcome students from his front porch—“The Fort.” CIS addresses basic needs in a unique, welcoming manner, from grab-and-go food packs to “Hoodie Hookups” that provide clothing when needed; basic needs are met quickly and with care.

What truly sets Harrison County apart is their strong collaboration with community partners. By building meaningful relationships with local organizations, businesses, and service providers, they can quickly identify resources and connect students and families to the right support at the right time. Their ability to work together as a community creates a seamless network of care around each student. Through partnerships like Subaru Jenkins—who donated brand new shoes and socks to NFI and NFP—the team continues to build strong networks of support that help students feel prepared, confident, and ready to succeed.

Though they serve three schools, their impact reaches far beyond the classroom—strengthening families, empowering students, and reinforcing the belief that every child can succeed with the right support.
