For the 2025–2026 school year, Raleigh County Communities In Schools (CIS) is prioritizing two key areas of impact: improving student attendance and strengthening family engagement.
CIS recognizes that consistent school attendance is one of the strongest predictors of academic success and long-term student outcomes. To address barriers that keep students from attending regularly, CIS site coordinators will continue working closely with school staff, families, and community partners to provide personalized support, including mentoring, transportation assistance, and access to essential resources. These resources include Thanksgiving food baskets, weekend food bags, etc.
Equally important, CIS is expanding its focus on family engagement, understanding that strong home–school connections are essential to student success. Through parent workshops, family events, and direct communication, CIS aims to empower families to play an active role in their children’s education and well-being.
By connecting students and families to caring adults and critical resources, Raleigh County CIS remains committed to its mission of surrounding students with a community of support, helping them stay in school and achieve in life.
Also, Site Coordinator Lindsay Flanagan met with student Djahnae Jackson to talk about the importance of attending school every day. Lindsay reminded Djahnae that consistent attendance helps students stay on track academically, build strong relationships, and develop good habits for the future. Together, they discussed goals and strategies to make sure Djahnae continues showing up ready to learn and succeed.
