Putnam County November Spotlight

ree

Putnam County, West Virginia, is a dynamic community recognized for its spirit of collaboration and pride in education. Serving more than 9,000 students, Putnam County Schools is consistently ranked among the top districts in the state, earning recognition as West Virginia’s #1 academic district. Communities In Schools (CIS) partners with the district to build on this tradition of success by addressing barriers to learning, supporting student well-being, and ensuring every child has the resources they need to excel. With strong community ties and a commitment to “achieving excellence,” Putnam County is dedicated to helping students thrive in school and beyond.

A great asset to Buffalo Elementary School is Chastity Miller, CIS Site Coordinator, and Principal Tonya Casto who work together in a positive and professional partnership. Mrs. Casto checks in regularly, attends monthly meetings, and any necessary trainings to best support CIS initiatives in her school. Communication is open and often to ensure efforts are coordinated not duplicated.  By analyzing data from a variety of sources, they collaborate to provide targeted supports and interventions for students, staff, and families. Their teamwork strengthens the school community and promotes student success. Having the trust and support of not only Principal Casto, but our school staff, to carry out interventions and tiered supports for students at BES makes a difference as a site coordinator.
