Mineral County November Spotlight

ree

Mineral County site coordinators are making attendance a priority—and they’re doing it with creativity, collaboration, and a whole lot of heart. Across the district, staff and students are embracing the message that being present matters.

At Keyser Middle School (KMS), the “Pledge to be Present” video has been a powerful tool in reinforcing the importance of attendance. What makes it especially impactful is that it features both students and staff, sending a clear message: being present is a shared commitment. The signed pledge board is a visual reminder of that promise, proudly displayed for all to see.

Attendance competitions are in full swing throughout the county, with schools hosting monthly and quarterly challenges to keep the momentum going. Jennifer (KMS) held an exciting October competition, and the energy around it was contagious.

Rewards and pop-up celebrations are also making a big difference. At Keyser High School, Lynne’s popcorn reward was a hit, and both Stacey and Shannon have been surprising students with attendance pop-ups—recognizing grades that hit 95% attendance with fun treats and recognition. These moments not only celebrate success but also build a positive culture around being present.

The photo collage captures just a glimpse of the enthusiasm and dedication happening across Mineral County. It’s clear that these efforts are more than just initiatives—they’re part of a growing movement to make every day count.
