A Community's Gift: Securing a Home for Siblings in Need

One experience that continues to touch me deeply involved collaborating with another CIS Site Coordinator to support a set of siblings experiencing housing instability. The family qualified for McKinney-Vento services, and after months of dedicated advocacy, resource coordination, and persistence, we successfully secured them permanent housing—a major milestone on its own.

The truly unforgettable moment came on move-in day. As we filled the apartment with furniture and essentials from Community Bridge and generous local donations, I paused to take it all in. Volunteers didn’t just drop off items—they arrived in force, carried heavy pieces up stairs, arranged rooms thoughtfully to match the family’s preferences, and turned an empty space into a warm, welcoming home. Watching our community rally together like that, pouring care and effort into creating stability and dignity for these students and their family, filled me with profound gratitude. It’s a powerful reminder of why we do this work: to restore hope, provide real security, and show families they are seen, valued, and supported.
